XX-XY Athletics is honoring real women with real courage who are changing history, now. Sia Liilii tells us how it’s done:
That's why she is the first 2025 Courage Wins Champion. She led her volleyball team at University of Nevada, Reno to boycott playing against the San Jose State University women’s volleyball team when they were fielding a male player. As the team captain, she led this boycott without support from her university.
Courage Wins Champions are brave women who have stood up for fairness, equal opportunity and safety in women’s sports in a consequential act across the categories of high school, collegiate, professional and Olympic levels of sport. And Sia did just that.
The XX-XY Courage Wins Award is designed to take monetary cancellation out of the equation to make standing up for women and girls and women’s sports a little bit easier, to elevate the voices of brave female athletes who take a stand, and to force universities and governing bodies to listen to athlete voices.
